Aims And Objectives

The college aims to impart integral education of the highest standard, sound learning, build up character and instill highest moral and spiritual values, uphold social justice and to share with others the fullness of life which God offers in and through Jesus Christ. Through various curricular and extra- curricular programmes, we propose to empower the rural youth, make them value-based, self confident and employable. The exposures and various formative programmes help the students to take up responsibilities in the society. We facilitate sincere and tradional student- teacher relationship to make each student to feel the college an extension of home.

Bishop Chulaparambil Memorial (B.C.M.) College, Kottayam was established in 1955.B.C.M. College  is a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accredited Educational Institution with B+ Good Grade, and is under the management of the Archdiocese of Kottayam, affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.This College was founded by Bishop Thomas Tharayil in the year 1955.B.C.M College is a landmark in Kottayam, the literacy capital of India, situated 1 km. away from the railway station, on the Kottayam - Kumali road. It faces Christ the King Cathedral next to the building that houses the famous "Malayala Manorama".

Since  its inception the college has made steady progress and is now one of the foremost Women's Colleges in Kerala with over 1400 students.B.C.M College aims at the integral personalized education of the young. As the name indicates, Avila College of education focuses on the training of teachers. In fact, the concept of the college was the long cherished vision of Rt. Rev. Dr.. Joseph Kureethara, late Bishop of Latin Catholic Diocese of Cochin and the founder patron of the college. In 1995 the college was founded at Edacochin, in Aquinas Campus. The college was named after St.Teresa of Avila, the Patron Saint of this institute.

FACILITIES
  • Students Counselling Centre: A group of compassionate seniors get together and offer counselling, study aids and material support for the underprivileged students who approach them. A qualified counsellor is also appointed by the Centre who offers advice to the students and recommends select students for assistance by way of study or material aids.
  • Tailoring Classes: A trained teacher is available on the campus to teach students the basics of garment-making.
  • Gymnasium: A gymnasium with state-of-the-art equipment is at the disposal of both staff and students.
  • Infirmary: Indisposed students can rest in the infirmary. Basic amenities such as First Aid are also provided.
  • Store: Text Books, Note Books, Since Records, student's requisites can be had from the college store.
  • Canteen: Provides Vegetarian and non - vegetarian meals and snacks.
  • Transport: The College has a fleet of three buses that ply to all the major stops in the city. The fees for the college bus should be paid in two instalments (June & October). Buses will run on regular trips till the end of January. If the fees are paid as a lump sum at the beginning of the academic year, there will be a concession of Rs. 100/-. Apart from this, State and Private bus services to the college are also available.
  • Bank: An extension counter of the Central bank of India operates in the College.
  • Sports : The college provides facilities for various games and encourages participation in the Inter-Collegiate and State Level Tournaments under the guidance of the Physical Education Department. The Cycling Club was introduced in 1992.

Counselling Centre :The Counselling Centre will cater to the personal and spiritual needs of the college community as well as the staff and students of other institutions in Bethany Hills.
Mar Ivanios Computer CentreThe Centre is well equipped for conducting courses and training programmes in various branches of Computer Science, Computer Operations and Applications.
The Centre is autonomous and its programmes do not form part of the academic programme of the College. Students however may make use of the facilities and services provided by this centre. Mar Ivanios Institute of Advanced Studies [MIIAS]: The Mar Ivanios Institute of Advanced Studies is the Golden Jubilee Memorial Project housed in a new building complex. It consists of a full fledged Computer Lab, a Language Lab, a Videography Studio and an Editing Lab, a Reference Library and Lecture Halls. IGNOU Study Centre: Mar Ivanios College is a full fledged study centre at Trivandrum, of the Indira Gandhi National Open University. (Study Centre Code : 1441)

Mar Ivanios BEC Study Centre: The Centre, set up in May 2007, offers training for the Cambridge Business English Certificate Vantage examination. The British Council supports the Center’s training for the BEC courses. Participants will be specially trained to qualify themselves in the modern global scenario with good knowledge of English communication skills. The College is also a member of the British Council Exams Partnership Programme “Addvantage”, as well as an approved Cambridge University ESOL examination Centre. Dr. P. J. Science Facilitation Centre (SFC): The Department of Physics has initiated a Science Popularisation Programme for school and college students. The Science Facilitation Centre, set up in February 2007, aims to inspire, motivate and promote scientific curiosity and creativity among students through its motto “Come! Experience, Enjoy and Explore Science”. Fifty talented students selected from different schools in Thiruvananthapuram district regularly come to the SFC for nurturing their scientific talents. Entrepreneurship Development (ED) Club: To inculcate ‘Entrepreneurial Culture’ among the students, an ED Club is effectively functioning in the college. The objectives of the ED club include: inculcating values like integrity, hard work, discipline, honesty etc, sensitising students on the real economic and industrial development scenario of the state, inculcating entrepreneurial culture in students, bringing in successful entrepreneurs and students on a common platform and creating academic and Industrial research linkage.

College Co-operative Store and Bank: All text books, note books, record books and stationery are supplied to students at fair price through the Co-operative Store, situated inside the Campus. Students are given Associate Membership to the Store at the time of their admission. The Bank attached to the Co-operative Store provides SB, FD and RD facilities for the students and staff. Loan facility is also available for the staff.
Extension Counter of the South Indian Bank is attached to the Staff Quarters.
College Canteen: Run on contract basis, the canteen serves noon meals and other refreshments on all working days.
Staff Quarters : Accommodation is provided for the members of the staff.
Mar Gregorios Renewal Centre: The Centre, established in memory of the first Principal of the College, Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios, provides facilities for Seminars/Conferences/ Workshops.
